Private and Adapted Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons for adults who are interested in learning to swim or water safety. We have instructors who can accommodate those with learning disabilities or physical impairments. Lessons are available by appointment only.

Healthy Living General Information
At the Y, our Healthy Living Department offers a variety of options for all participant levels. From the new exerciser/health seeker, to the Wellness Center regular, to the elite athlete, you will find programs designed for you! Our group classes are organized by intensity level in a 1-2-3 format.
Are you a HEALTH SEEKER? Are you trying to improve your health? Are you new to exercise and want a class that is appropriate to your current ability?
HEALTH SEEKERS/NEW EXERCISERS: LOOK for classes listed as a 1 then read the description to find the classe(es) that best suit your ability. Classes listed with a 2-3 are for moderate to advanced exercisers (currently exercising at least 3 days per week with no physical limitations). Classes listed as Mind/Body are good for anyone who is stressed and wants to learn to R-E-L-A-X! All Healthy Living programs are taught by certified, experienced instructors. Our goal is to help you reach YOUR goal!
New to Exercise and Active Older Adult Schedule
CHOOSE TO LOSE FOR HEALTHY LIVING!
Led by Aaron Hochmann, Healthy Living Director and certified Personal Trainer. Aaron has a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, an Associate’s degree in Dietetics & Nutrition and is a credential Fitness Nutrition Specialist. This program includes educational classes, weigh-ins, Pre and Post assessments, weight loss education, group discussions, informational handouts and MOTIVATION! Class runs for 10 weeks.

Choose to Lose Mini
Same day and time as Choose to Lose class. Includes the bonus workout and first 15 minutes of meeting: weigh-in and weekly handouts. Must have taken full Choose to Lose class to be eligible to participate.
NEW!! DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM!
Are you borderline diabetic or have “just a touch of sugar”? YOU can prevent Type 2 Diabetes! The Butler YMCA is proud to partner with Adagio Health to offer this new preventative program. You will learn how to make better food choices, begin to lose weight, become more active, discuss changing behaviors to improve your habits and use food records to track your improved food choices.
There is no fee for this program, but you must pre-register, as space is limited.
Class started in September, 2016 and runs for one year. Check back for next session date.
Aqua Total Fit
Exercise your whole body from the feet up and the inside out. This class is a moderately-paced cardio workout with exercises focusing on mobility, strength, flexibility and endurance. It is perfect for increasing your confidence with everyday activities. Free to members – no registration.
A mix of low impact cardio mixed with short bursts of strength. Good for beginners and active older adults. Free to members – no registration.
This class fuses Latin rhythms & easy to follow dance moves to create a dynamic workout! Free for members – no registration.
Essential Weight Training
A strength and muscular endurance class for all fitness levels. Class will build strength and conditioning through varied weight training workouts. Focus will be on proper training form and the fundamentals of weight training including balance and flexibility. This class is taught by a certified Personal Trainer.
Try it! Research shows thinking and moving is superb for active older adults. Join the FUN! No fee, included in membership.
Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers® kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination. Free to members – no registration.
Warm Water Intervals
This class is designed to help improve your overall fitness with different types of interval and recovery exercises for a total body workout that is gentle on your joints. No swimming required. Each participant decides their own intensity level for the day. Free to members – no registration.
Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program
This class will consist of exercises for the total body to increase range of motion, flexibility and coordination. Free to members – no registration.
Functional Walk Cardio (Gym 2)
Join this cardiovascular class which will set distance & time goals for variable-paced walking. Free to members – no registration.
Aqua Fit & Tone
This class is geared toward those who want a class that keeps moving and will help condition the cardiovascular system to get fit. A combination of pool equipment will be used to tone the body without the added stress on the joints. Free to members – no registration.
Just 30 minutes – fast and effective! Appropriate for all fitness levels, modifications will be offered. Optional step and intervals may be mixed in for anyone wanting them. Free for members.
Gentle Water Exercise
A light cardio workout, non-impact. Increase flexibility & strength using a variety of water exercise equipment. Free to members – no registration.
Aqua Movin’ & Groovin’!
A fun class in the warm water pool where we will be movin’ & groovin’ to the beat of anything from “oldies but goodies” to some modern music. No swimming required. This is a fun way to exercise, burn calories and get or stay fit. Come and try it! Free to members – no registration.
Switch It Up!
This class is for all body types and beginner fitness levels and “switches it up” every 15 minutes. The body keeps moving throughout while we use a variety of aquatic equipment to improve strength, flexibility, range of movement and balance. Free to members – no registration.
SilverSneakers® Circuit (Gym 2)
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular & muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers® ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises. Free to members – no registration.
SilverSneakers® Classic (Gym 2)
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers® ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support. Free to members – no registration.
This is a fun, high energy class taught so that everyone can find the right intensity. Free to members – no registration.
Barre is a safe, low impact program that will tone and strengthen your body! It is safe and effective for all fitness levels. Using a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like Yoga and Pilates, the class will focus on strength training combined with range-of-motion movements. Free to members – no registration.
Delay the Disease
This program is a new, life-changing exercise and mobility program expressly designed for people with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. Led by a certified Delay the Disease instructor, the program improves the physical, mental and emotional realities of PD patients. Beginning exercises will take place from a seated position. Exercise will be modified, as needed, for all levels of PD participants. Space is limited in this class. Care Partners are requested to stay for the first class and encouraged to attend all classes (no additional charge).

This class is a blend of Yoga styles. All participants must possess self-sustained balance and must be comfortable in transitioning from standing position to the floor without support. A basic functional assessment test may be required to attend this class. Great for the beginner.
Yoga reduces stress, enhances breathing, relaxes and tones muscles through a mindful method of mental and physical well-being training. No fee, included in membership.
Same as A.M. Yoga, just 30 minutes.
Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. Free to members – no registration.
This is an introductory class focusing on the fundamentals of yoga. If you are a beginner or just interested in a slower-paced class, this is for you. There are no pre-requisites, you don’t need to touch your toes! Classes will contain yoga poses both seated and standing (using the chair if needed as support), along with modifications of the poses to suit participants’ individual needs. Class will be held in Phillips’ Hall-A. No fee, included in membership.
Recommended for YMCA members 16+ years of age and ideal for new members.
Free 30-minute session for adult YMCA member who wish to discuss their “healthy living goals” and want to learn the services the Y can offer to achieve those goals. A certified personal trainer will provide guidance in Wellness Center usage, group exercise participation and personal training services.

Blood pressure screenings will be available at various times in the main lobby.
Do you need help reaching your health goals? This program is designed to allow a trainer and member to work together in developing an individualized exercise program. We offer a variety of times and trainers. Personal training is by appointment for YMCA members only. Full payment is due at time of registration. Sign up in the Wellness Center to be contacted for appointment. *A comprehensive assessment is FREE once per year to paid participants.

You must be 18 years or older and out of High School to participate in our adult leagues. These leagues are designed for the purpose of fellowship, competition, and the benefits of exercise. All levels and abilities are welcome.
Adult Pick-up Pickleball
This is great exercise! Pick-up times are for adults ages 18 and older. Bring some friends and a water bottle and join us in Gym 2.
Included in membership. Guest Pass available for $9.00 for non-members.
Men’s Fall Basketball League
Back by Popular Demand!
Did you know that the Butler YMCA has two racquetball courts? We are excited to bring back a Racquetball League!
Opponents will play 8 matches over the course of each session. Matches include three games per match. Games will be played the best of 3 games to 15 points with a tie-breaker to 11 points on the third game. Scorecards must be submitted and standings will be posted weekly.
Who: Anyone 18 and older
Levels: A,B,C,D levels available (A=experienced D=beginner)

Lifeguard Certification Courses
Must be at least 15 years old prior to course end date. This course is for those who wish to become a certified lifeguard. See registration form for detailed information and skills needed to participate. Attendance at all classes is mandatory. Pre-swim tests will be conducted by appointment. You must pass the pre-swim test in order to register for the class.
