Private and Adapted Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons for adults who are interested in learning to swim or water safety. We have instructors who can accommodate those with learning disabilities or physical impairments. Lessons are available by appointment only.

A class for adults who would like to feel more comfortable in the water and may have never participated in swim lessons. Non-swimmers and intermediate swimmers are taught basic swimming skills to help gain confidence in the water. Pool 1

The Butler YMCA, in conjunction with Scott’s Scuba Service, is teaming up to conduct a Scuba Diving Certification Course here at the YMCA. The course is divided into three learning aspects; learning the theory of diving in the classroom and skill development in the pool at the YMCA. The final aspect takes place at Scott’s Scuba private diving lake in the Slippery Rock area. This is where you will make the transition from what you learned at the YMCA into a local diving environment. The course takes place over five sessions from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The program is 100% all inclusive in the pricing with absolutely nothing to purchase. The course is open for ages 10 years and older. All registration and questions should be directed to Scott’s Scuba Service in Freeport, PA.
For ages 10 and older. A parent must take the class with any child ages 10 or 11.

At the Y, our Healthy Living Department offers a variety of options for all participant levels. From the new exerciser/health seeker, to the Wellness Center regular, to the elite athlete, you will find programs designed for you! Our group classes are organized by intensity level in a 1-2-3 format.
Are you a HEALTH SEEKER? Are you trying to improve your health? Are you new to exercise and want a class that is appropriate to your current ability?
HEALTH SEEKERS/NEW EXERCISERS: LOOK for classes listed as a 1 then read the description to find the classe(es) that best suit your ability. Classes listed with a 2-3 are for moderate to advanced exercisers (currently exercising at least 3 days per week with no physical limitations). Classes listed as Mind/Body are good for anyone who is stressed and wants to learn to R-E-L-A-X! All Healthy Living programs are taught by certified, experienced instructors. Our goal is to help you reach YOUR goal!
Aqua Total Fit
Exercise your whole body, from the feet up and the inside out. This class is a moderately-paced cardio workout with exercises focusing on mobility, strength, flexibility and endurance. It is perfect for increasing your confidence with everyday activities. Conducted in the warm water McLaughlin Pool. Free to members – no registration.
A mix of low impact cardio mixed with short bursts of strength. Fun & effective. Free to members – no registration.
Core & Stability
Strengthen your core through a variety of movements that focus not only on core strength, but also balance and stability. Using the BOSU, as well as balance on the floor, you will be able to increase overall core stabilization and improve back support and posture. Free to members – no registration.
Using a mix of low to moderate intensity movements, you will learn how to train your body to become efficient at burning fat while putting low impact on your joints. Free to members – no registration.
This class fuses Latin rhythms & easy to follow dance moves to create a dynamic workout! Free for members – no registration.
Essential Weight Training
A strength and muscular endurance class for all fitness levels. Class will build strength and conditioning through varied weight training workouts. Focus will be on proper training form and the fundamentals of weight training including balance and flexibility. This class is taught by a certified Personal Trainer.

Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility & flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength & endurance conditioning. Warm Water Intervals
This class is designed to help improve your overall fitness with different types of interval and recovery exercises for a total body workout that is gentle on your joints. No swimming required. Each participant decides their own intensity level for the day. Free to members – no registration.
Zumba Wake Up (Program Center)
This class will wake up your mind and give you energy to get the day moving in a positive way! Free for members – no registration.
Functional Walk Cardio (Gym 2)

Work It In The Water
Let water be your resistance! Work your body in a comfortable and safe manner while increasing heart rate and challenging your endurance. If you have joint or bone issues or just enjoy water exercise, this class will give you the workout you need! Free to members – no registration.
Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) (Program Center)
This class helps provide specific exercises that will help seniors stay active and reduce their chance of falling. Free for members – no registration.
Gentle Water Exercise
A light cardio workout, non-impact. Increase flexibility & strength using a variety of water exercise equipment. Free to members – no registration.
Aqua Movin’ & Groovin’
A fun class in the warm water pool where we will be movin’ & groovin’ to a variety of music. No swimming required. This is a fun way to exercise, burn calories and get or stay fit. Come and try it! Free to members – no registration.
Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program
This class will consist of exercises for the total body to increase range of motion, flexibility and coordination. Free to members – no registration.
Aqua Boot Camp
Advanced class in Pool 1. If you love boot camp on land, try it in the WATER! This class uses various water resistance tools to shape & tone muscles while giving you a great cardio workout! Get stronger without impacting your joints. Come and try it! Free to members – no registration.
This aqua class is for active older adults of all abilities. This low impact class lets you relax in the warmth of Pool 2 and includes a variety of exercises to increase strength, flexibility and range of motion. Various aqua equipment is used. Free to members – no registration.
Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba class, so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles. Free to members – no registration.

This is a fun, high energy class taught so that everyone can find the right intensity. Free to members – no registration.
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular & muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers® ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. This class will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Advanced Weight Training
This 60-minute class focuses on core stability and progression in strength training. All muscle groups are worked in each class. A variety of equipment is used and varies each week to continually challenge your body. Format is based on the latest science to effectively build strength and conditioning. This is the Ys only full body advanced weight training class. Instructor is a certified Personal Trainer.
War by Group RX is an exhilarating total body workout with a fusion of martial arts meets chart-topping music! Learn how to punch effectively, kick safely and perform hook and uppercase like a pro! Free to members – no registration.
Aqua Intervals (Pool 1)
An interval-based class to get YOUR metabolism confused! We will mix in lots of equipment to challenge muscle groups while endurance is increased. This class uses both the shallow and deep end of the pool. Flotation belts available. Free to members – no registration.

Deep H2O Suspension (Pool 1)
Come experience water fitness in the deep end of the pool. Water belts are available. A great full body workout including cardio and toning segments done in the deep end of Pool 1. Free to members – no registration.

Aqua P.E. (Pool 1)
Physical Education class in the pool! Using all components of the water to strengthen muscular development and cardiovascular system. Pool equipment will be used and water belts will be available for everyone. No class will be the same! Free to members – no registration.
Involves strengthening of all major muscle groups. Free to members – no registration.
Mat Pilates is a way to stretch and strengthen your body, primarily the muscles of core, which span from your hips to your shoulders. Borrows from disciplines such as dance, yoga and classic calisthenics. Free to members – no registration.
Barre is a safe, low impact program that will tone and strengthen your body! It is safe and effective for all fitness levels. Using a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like Yoga and Pilates, the class will focus on strength training combined with range-of-motion movements. Tai Chi for Beginners
Tai Chi involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner, accompanied by deep breathing. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Program Fee, registration required.

Delay the Disease
This program is a new, life-changing exercise and mobility program expressly designed for people with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. Led by a certified Delay the Disease instructor, the program improves the physical, mental and emotional realities of PD patients. Beginning exercises will take place from a seated position. Exercise will be modified, as needed, for all levels of PD participants. Space is limited in this class. Care Partners are requested to stay for the first class and encouraged to attend all classes (no additional charge). Sign up any time – prorated weeks once class has begun. This class is a blend of Yoga styles. All participants must possess self-sustained balance and must be comfortable in transitioning from standing position to the floor without support. A dynamic class with energetic music that utilizes sun salutations, warrior poses and multiple balance and core poses to build strength, flexibility and agility. Class ends with focused stretching. For all fitness levels, prior yoga experience not necessary, but participants need to be able to get up & down from the mat easily. Not appropriate for someone new to exercise. An easy, relaxed evening class aimed at providing you with the time to remove the baggage of the past and worry of the future while developing a better relationship wit the present moment. Each class will begin with a short guided meditation, linked with breathing and awareness of the body. All poses will be very low impact and presented in a way that is suitable for everyone. Silent reflection in closing the class will bring a renewed sense of well-being that will catalyst into a restful night’s sleep. No fee, included in membership.

This is an introductory class focusing on the fundamentals of yoga. If you are a beginner or just interested in a slower-paced class, this is for you. There are no pre-requisites, you don’t need to touch your toes! Classes will contain yoga poses both seated and standing (using the chair if needed as support), along with modifications of the poses to suit participants’ individual needs. Class will be held in the Program Center. No fee, included in membership.
This movement is aligned and linked with the breath so that you move with each inhale and exhale. Dynamic flow from posture to posture.

Adult Karate Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean martial art that focuses on the whole person along with self-defense skills. Instruction is on an individual level and each student trains within his/her ability to meet the curriculum requirements to achieve rank.
Students are trained with safety in mind. Students are taught how to avoid dangerous situations, how to avoid bullies and gain confidence to stand up for themselves. Character qualities are also taught, such as discipline, self-control, integrity, respect and leadership.
Classes are offered on a monthly basis and run year-round. Registration is open from the 15th to the last day of every month. Participants must register prior to each new session or a $10 late fee will apply.
Keiser Group Cycle
Come and experience Group Cycling at a whole new level! The Keiser bike gives a ride close to outside cycling and incorporates a computer that creates a training experience second to none. Group Cycle Schedule

Metabolic Conditioning Intervals
This class challenges the entire body, combing high-intensity intervals on the bike with strength/resistance sets using free weights and body weight to build muscle, torch calories and burn fat long after the workout ends. Recommended for regular exercisers ready to take things up a notch. Taught by a certified personal trainer. No fee, included in membership.

NEW! SMART Start Program
We are pleased to introduce the SMART Start new member wellness orientation. As a new member of the Y, you will receive (1) one FREE 45-minute coaching session with a Wellness Center staff person. During this session, you will learn how to use the state-of-the-art equipment in the Wellness Center, review your fitness goals, as well as go through workouts. Our goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible in the Wellness Center and to provide the information you need to use the equipment in a safe manner. The SMART Start offer will expire 45 days after initial join date, so sign up TODAY!
Do you need help reaching your health goals? This program is designed to allow a trainer and member to work together in developing an individualized exercise program. We offer a variety of times and trainers. Personal training is by appointment for YMCA members only. Full payment is due at time of registration. Blood Pressure Screenings
Blood pressure screenings will be available at various times in the main lobby. Thank you to Hefren-Tillotson for their donation of a blood pressure machine located in the YMCA lobby.

You must be 18 years or older and out of High School to participate in our adult leagues. These leagues are designed for the purpose of fellowship, competition, and the benefits of exercise. All levels and abilities are welcome.
This is great exercise for the active older adult. Bring some friends and a water bottle and join us in Gym 2.

Did you know that the Butler YMCA has two racquetball courts?
Opponents will play 8 matches over the course of each session. Matches include three games per match. Games will be played the best of 3 games to 15 points with a tie-breaker to 11 points on the third game. Scorecards must be submitted and standings will be posted weekly.

Lifeguard Certification Courses
Must be at least 15 years old prior to course end date. This course is for those who wish to become a certified lifeguard. See registration form for detailed information and skills needed to participate. Attendance at all classes is mandatory. Pre-swim tests will be conducted by appointment. You must pass the pre-swim test in order to register for the class. Become lifeguard certified and employed by the Butler YMCA for 6 months and the Y will reimburse up to $100 of the training cost.
