Staff and Safety

The Y recruits mature and capable staff to work in our programs. We count on each of them to be a role model to our campers and to teach campers the Y’s core values—respect, responsibility, honesty and caring.

All camp staff members are carefully screened and selected based on:

  • Experience, skills, and abilities
  • Certifications and education
  • Character
  • Enthusiasm
  • Love of working with children

All Day Camp staff members attend a mandatory and comprehensive pre-camp training program, some of which includes CPR and first aid training, water safety, and fire safety. Most of our Day Camp staff work for the Y year-round in our Childcare Department.

Medications must be in the original prescribed container with the child’s name and dosage. Parents will fill out a medication form that will remain with the child’s counselor. Epi-Pens and Inhalers will be able to stay with the child’s counselor in the grades’ camp backpack in a labeled baggy. Other medications that need to be given during camp hours will be locked in the camp director’s camp backpack and given at the prescribed time. All medication given will be signed off with dosage amount and time given with staff initials.

On extremely hot days, please send extra water. We will conduct activities under the pavilion to provide shade.

Butler - For inclement weather (severe storms), camp will be held at the Butler YMCA. Parents will be notified by 5:00 AM same day via Procare. In this case, pick-up and drop-off will be at the Butler YMCA.

South Butler - Day Camp will remain outside rain or shine! The pavilion is covered on three sides to protect us from inclement weather. In the case of severe storms, we will seek shelter in SEBCO pool’s changing rooms or the bathrooms at the park.

Karns City - Day Campers will remain inside Karns City High School on rainy or extremely hot days.

We're so glad to hear that. You can make a difference in a child's life, make new friends, and create lifelong memories while working at the Y!

We are hiring for head counselors, counselors, and junior counselors. To apply, visit our employment page.

Staff are required to clean high touch areas after use, such as including tables and chairs, restrooms, materials, and other frequently used spaces.

Currently all adults are required to wear a face covering while indoors in designated child care spaces regardless of vaccination status.
